ADC Accuses Wike of Fear Over Coalition’s 2027 Prospects
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly dismissed FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s remarks about their opposition coalition, alleging that his harsh criticisms stem from fear of their growing influence ahead of the 2027 election.
In a statement released Thursday, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said Wike’s aggressive tone is born of concern, not disagreement. He argued that if the FCT administration had fulfilled its core duties—like paying striking teachers and improving staff welfare—Wike would not feel compelled to denigrate the coalition.
“The ADC has noted with unease the virulent attacks launched by Minister Wike,” Abdullahi said, noting that such behavior is unbecoming of a federal minister. He condemned Wike for “descending to this level” in an apparent bid to divert attention from poor governance.
Abdullahi criticized Wike’s commission of expensive “white elephant projects” while public servants remain unpaid, accusing him of misusing his office to suppress dissent and weaken the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The ADC’s statement underscored that the coalition has been driven by grassroots dissatisfaction: “We are aggrieved to see children of the poor unable to get education… growing insecurity in the FCT… The coalition movement belongs to the Nigerian people… no tirade against our leaders could stem its tide.”
