All African Nations Eliminated From The 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Atlas Lions went into the crucial fixture as Africa’s final hope at the tournament after the remaining nine African representatives had already been eliminated from the competition.

Morocco had produced a historic campaign that saw them advance beyond the knockout stages and become the first African side to reach the quarter-finals of the expanded World Cup format. However, their impressive run was halted by a strong French side, denying the continent a place in the semi-finals.

The North Africans began their tournament campaign with a determined 1-1 draw against five-time world champions Brazil before securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Scotland. They completed their group-stage matches with an entertaining 4-2 win over Haiti, a result that helped them finish second in Group C and qualify for the knockout rounds.

In the Round of 32, Morocco showed remarkable resilience by eliminating the Netherlands through a penalty shootout. They followed that achievement with a dominant 3-0 victory over co-hosts Canada in the Round of 16, becoming the only African nation to make it into the final eight of the competition.

Egypt was the only other African team to reach the knockout phase, with the Pharaohs advancing to the Round of 16 before falling to a narrow 3-2 defeat against Argentina in a closely fought encounter.

A total of 10 African countries featured at the 2026 World Cup, but only Morocco and Egypt managed to progress beyond the group stage. Other African teams that reached the Round of 32 included the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Cape Verde, and Algeria.

Morocco’s elimination now brings Africa’s campaign at the tournament to a close, with the continent once again left waiting for another opportunity to make history on football’s biggest stage.
