Magaji, speaking on Arise TV, detailed the intricate scheme through which the funds were purportedly siphoned. He asserted that a significant portion of the diverted funds, amounting to half of the over N100 billion allocated for Local Government use, was channeled into various local government accounts. Subsequently, the funds were allegedly laundered through falsified expenditures and third-party transactions.
Key to the operation, as revealed by Magaji, was the utilization of Bureau De Change (BDC) services to convert the embezzled Naira into dollars. Testimony from individuals involved in the process allegedly corroborated the conversion of funds and their subsequent distribution to certain individuals.
Magaji underscored the scale of the alleged embezzlement, citing confessional statements from approximately 200 individuals who purportedly participated in padding up expenditure figures at the behest of the Ganduje-led administration.
With compelling evidence in hand, Magaji asserted the commission’s readiness to pursue legal action against those implicated in the embezzlement scandal. He emphasized the verifiability and cogency of the evidence gathered, signaling a forthcoming legal battle to hold accountable those responsible for the misappropriation of state funds.
The allegations levied against Ganduje underscore the ongoing efforts to combat corruption within Nigeria’s political landscape. As the case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the imperative to uphold transparency and accountability in governance, safeguarding the public trust and fiscal integrity of the state.
