Anambra CP Orders Re-Arrest Of Armed Robbery Suspects Amid Security Shake-Up

According to Ireporter Online, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the immediate re-arrest of two suspects, Onyebuchi Nwobodo and Ebube Umezumba, in connection with an armed robbery case. The directive followed the discovery of an administrative lapse by a police prosecutor during the suspects’ initial release.

The Anambra State Police Command revealed that the suspects were originally apprehended for their alleged involvement in armed robbery but were released due to procedural errors. The case gained new momentum after victims provided additional testimony identifying the suspects as active participants in the crime.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Spokesman for the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that a fresh charge has been filed before the High Court to ensure that justice is served. The statement emphasized that, in line with his zero-tolerance policy on professional negligence, the CP has ordered disciplinary measures against officers responsible for the administrative lapse.

“This decisive action underscores the Command’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the rule of law,” the statement read.

Separately, the command reported the re-arrest of Ikemefuna Ossai, a suspect implicated in the kidnapping and murder of the late Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha 1 Constituency. Ossai, who initially escaped custody in February 2025, was apprehended on May 7, 2025, in Asaba, Delta State, following an intelligence-led operation spanning multiple states in Nigeria and a neighbouring country. The suspect resisted arrest and sustained a gunshot wound to the leg before being taken into custody.
