APC Chieftain Ogbu-Aguocha Commends Tinubu, Kalu, And NASS For SEDC Bill Approval
A frontline chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Princess Ada Ogbu-Aguocha, has commended President Bola Tinubu for signing the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law.
Ogbu-Aguocha, the APC candidate for Enugu East Senatorial Zone in the 2023 general elections, also commended the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, for championing the bill and ensuring its passage into law within a year of assuming office.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Ogbu-Aguocha described the achievement as a major milestone towards ensuring the development of the South East, over 50 years after the end of the Civil War.
She said: “I recall the three Rs promised us after the Civil War, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Reconciliation. This bill shows that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has actually initiated the Reconstruction of the South East while deepening the Reconciliation and Rehabilitation of the region. I also want to point out that this is only the second year of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government so it is obvious that he is still going to do more for the Southeast.
“I am congratulating Ndi Igbo, and at the same time, thanking Mr President for assenting to the South East Development Commission Bill. I want to thank the President profusely knowing that now, the South East can begin the process of healing from the wounds of the Civil War and the reconstruction of the South East can now begin in earnest.
“Some of the problems we have which are not quite peculiar to us but are endemic, such as erosion, can be looked into and taken care of. The economy of the region will be boosted and rapid interstate infrastructural development can be initiated.
“I have to thank Mr President, because in the past, this bill had been proposed before at the National Assembly, but was never passed or got presidential assent. So President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has proven that he is truly a friend of Ndi Igbo, and I know that he will do more for Ndi Igbo.
She added: “An Igbo adage says ‘e too dike na nke o mere, ọ mee ọzọ’, meaning that when a great man does something great and is appreciated, he is strengthened to do more. If this early in office, Mr. President has given Ndigbo this huge and historical consideration, obviously, he will do a lot more for the Southeast in the next few years. So we thank President Tinubu profusely for that.
“I also especially congratulate our worthy son, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives who has also shown that he is committed to the good of all and not just for the good of himself. We commend him highly, for not only introducing the bill but tenaciously following the bill through its passage in the Senate and Reps and getting the presidential assent.
“We thank him, commend him, and congratulate him for the worthy effort. So generally, Ndi Igbo are indeed very grateful.”
