APC Leader Urges FG Transparency On Fuel Subsidy Status
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Musiliu Obanikoro, has called on the President Bola Tinubu-led government to provide clear communication to Nigerians regarding the status of fuel subsidy, expressing concerns that it may have been reintroduced…..READ ALSO Why Amaechi Is No Longer APC Leader In Rivers – Campaign Director
Speaking during an appearance on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Obanikoro emphasized the need for transparency, stating that there are indications suggesting the government might have reintroduced fuel subsidy and urged the government to address the issue openly.
He stated, “You talk about subsidy, Mr. Falana knows the price of crude in dollars, and if our money, the naira, has lost so much value, and crude is dollarized, evidently, there must be a cushion somewhere and to what extent is that cushion being done, I can’t speak to that; it’s somebody who is representing the government that can address that.”
Obanikoro further stressed the importance of keeping the public informed, stating that due to the challenges faced by the country, the government cannot afford to leave any gaps unfilled, potentially necessitating government intervention to mitigate the situation.
He concluded, “I do believe that needs to be communicated, no doubt about that. That is why it is important to take the people along step by step.”
It is noteworthy that in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023, President Bola Tinubu announced the end of the petrol subsidy era, with the price of the critical commodity rising significantly. Additionally, the government devalued the naira, resulting in a significant depreciation in its value.
