APC Sets Dates for Key Meetings and Non-Elective Convention Amid Criticism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sanctioned the dates for crucial party meetings. According to recent updates, the APC’s National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings are scheduled to occur between September 8 and 12, 2024. Additionally, a non-elective convention will be held in December, though the exact date remains unconfirmed.

This decision follows a formal request from APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, which was communicated to President Tinubu. The president’s approval, conveyed through his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, marks a pivotal moment for the party.

Since Dr. Ganduje’s appointment on August 3, 2023, there has been mounting criticism from within the party regarding the delay in holding these essential meetings. Critics have voiced concerns over Ganduje’s leadership, arguing that the lack of meetings has impeded key decision-making processes. Some members even called for Ganduje’s resignation, citing his failure to address pressing issues.

In response to these challenges, the APC’s North Central Forum, led by Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, has expressed support for President Tinubu’s decision. Zazzaga praised the move, highlighting its importance for addressing regional grievances and preparing for future electoral strategies. “This has been our long-term cry in the North Central APC. We hope these meetings will provide a platform to address our concerns and help us plan effectively for the 2027 election,” Zazzaga stated.
