APC To Boost Women’s Representation In Governance, Yilwatda Declares
According to Ireporter Online, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to expanding women’s participation in governance, pledging increased opportunities for women in both elective and appointive positions ahead of the next political cycle.
Yilwatda made the remarks while receiving the APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, alongside newly elected zonal and state women leaders at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. He praised Nigerian women for their resilience and consistent contributions to the party’s electoral successes, describing them as a foundational force within the APC.
He emphasized that women bring value, strength, and stability to leadership, stressing that gender should not limit political participation. He further likened women to “flowers” that add beauty and vitality to both the party and the nation, noting that their presence in governance structures should be significantly increased.
The APC chairman assured the delegation of his personal support in advancing women’s inclusion within party structures and government appointments, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also argued that the principle of federal character should extend to gender representation, not just geographical balance.
Yilwatda reiterated that women possess the competence and leadership capacity required for public office, adding that efforts would be made to ensure their greater representation in campaign councils and governance roles.
In her remarks, Dr. Idele commended the leadership style of Yilwatda, describing it as inclusive and unifying, and expressed appreciation to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her continued support for women empowerment initiatives. She reaffirmed the commitment of APC women leaders to grassroots mobilisation and sustained support for the party.
