Aviation Revolution: FAAN’s Bold Move To Lagos Sparks Controversy And Cost Savings
In a surprising development, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the government’s decision to relocate the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos…..CONTINUE READING
Despite facing opposition from various northern groups and political figures, Keyamo stood firm on the decision during an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
The relocation, which has sparked controversy, is met with resistance from Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), and other northern entities who perceive it as a marginalization of the north. However, Keyamo clarified that the move is driven by the necessity to align with current economic and operational efficiencies.
Despite concerns raised by Senator Ndume and northern groups, Keyamo emphasized that the relocation is a strategic decision aimed at saving the Nigerian government and its people half a billion naira annually. This significant cost-saving is attributed to the reduced airfare expenses for FAAN officials who frequently travel between Lagos and Abuja for official duties.
As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Keyamo disclosed that the decision for relocation was influenced by recommendations from top FAAN officials and aviation unions. They argued that the move would enhance operational efficiency, emphasizing that it involves only the headquarters of one out of the seven aviation agencies in the country.
The controversy further escalated when questioned about President Bola Tinubu’s awareness of the decision, with Keyamo boldly stating that he was the one who took the decision. As the story unfolds, the nation watches closely as FAAN’s bold move to Lagos unfolds, bringing both controversy and potential cost savings to the forefront of national aviation discussions.
