Balami Breaks Silence, Reveals Peter Obi Has Not Contacted Him Since Resignation

According to Ireporter Online, Balami disclosed this during an interview on Arise News, where he spoke about his political journey, his decision to leave the movement and his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Balami had left the APC in September 2022 to join the Labour Party and support the Obi-Datti presidential campaign, citing concerns over inequality and the ruling party’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket at the time.

However, he returned to the APC in July 2024, explaining that his decision was influenced by internal challenges within the Labour Party and what he described as the party’s inability to provide a strong political alternative for Nigeria.

Speaking on his relationship with Obi after his resignation, Balami said he had neither received any communication from the former Anambra State governor nor attempted to contact him because he voluntarily left the movement.

“Peter Obi, since I resigned and left, he has never reached out to me. I was angry; I left. So why should I reach out to him? I left. I wasn’t fired; I left,” Balami stated.

The former campaign official also addressed young Nigerians who supported the Obidient Movement during the 2023 presidential election, urging them to assess the performance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration based on policies and reforms rather than personal opinions about political figures.

Balami highlighted initiatives such as local government autonomy, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), youth inclusion in governance and reforms across various sectors as reasons for his support for the current administration.

He expressed optimism that the government’s policies would create more opportunities for young Nigerians and contribute to national development in the coming years.

“For me, what I would say to them is that they know why I left the APC to support Obi and Datti. They know why I am back to the APC. I’ve said it not once, not twice. The transformation and the reforms we are talking about today in Nigeria, I am an example,” he said.
