Bandits Kidnap ‘President’ In Abuja, Police React

John Emmanuel, the President of the Abuja Newspapers Distributors Association, fell victim to a bandit kidnapping in the Giri area of the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday night while traveling in a ‘one-chance’ vehicle.

Reliable sources informed The PUNCH that the kidnappers have demanded a ₦15 million ransom from his family.

The incident occurred around 8 pm on Tuesday on the Giri Highway as Emmanuel was on his way back home. Mrs. Uche Emmanuel, the victim’s wife, confirmed her husband’s abduction and revealed that the abductors have contacted the family, seeking a ₦15 million ransom for his release.

She said, “Yes, my husband was kidnapped in Giri yesterday at about 8pm. He was in a public taxi on his way back home, unfortunately, the vehicle was a one-chance vehicle, and they’re demanding ₦15m before they’ll release him.”

The FCT Police Command stated that the incident has not been reported to the police for intervention at this time.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said, “There is no such incident reported at any of our stations for now. Maybe the family has not contacted or reported to us (the police) yet; we can’t know what is not reported to us.”
