Basira Beere Reveals Abuse By Ex-Husband, Says She Suffered Four Pregnancy Losses
According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood actress Basira Beere has opened up about her past marriage, revealing that she endured domestic violence which had severe effects on her health and personal wellbeing, including multiple pregnancy losses.
The actress shared the details during a recent appearance on the Talk To B podcast, where she explained that she went ahead with the marriage despite concerns raised by friends who believed her partner was not on the same social standing as her. She noted that she chose to support him regardless, even contributing significantly to the wedding expenses, which she estimated at about 70 percent.
Basira Beere disclosed that the marriage began to experience serious difficulties just days after the wedding. She recounted that a simple interaction, where she responded warmly to a congratulatory message from a male acquaintance, triggered intense conflict in the home.
She further alleged that the relationship deteriorated into repeated episodes of physical abuse, at times severe enough to draw the attention of their landlord. According to her, she initially tried to endure the situation, influenced by advice from her parents to remain patient, although her siblings were aware of the reality of her experience.
The actress also described how minor disagreements escalated into violence, including an incident involving an argument over music selection that led to the destruction of her phone and a subsequent assault. She stated that shortly after the incident, she experienced health complications and later suffered a pregnancy loss.
Basira revealed that she lost about three to four pregnancies during the course of the marriage, adding that the repeated trauma left her fearing for her life. She said the situation eventually reached a breaking point, prompting her decision to leave the marriage completely.
She added that she had begun to consider self-defense due to the escalating violence, stressing that staying in the relationship any longer could have led to a fatal outcome for either party. The actress also noted that there were no children from the marriage and expressed gratitude that she was able to walk away when she did.
Basira Beere concluded that leaving the marriage was necessary for her survival, describing the experience as one that reinforced her understanding of the dangers of domestic violence.
