Benue State Government Plans Independent Power Supply Plant To Boost Electricity Generation

Raymond Asemakaha, the Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), disclosed this during a meeting on Monday, highlighting the state’s commitment to ensuring sufficient power supply for economic growth.

This move follows the recent ratification of a bill by the federal government empowering state governments to own and operate their electricity businesses.

During discussions with a delegation from Remedy Earth at the BIPC corporate offices in Makurdi, Asemakaha urged the energy company to set up a pilot plant in Benue State. He emphasized the importance of the state having its power plant to drive economic activities effectively.

Asemakaha stated, “We know that one thing that stimulates the economy is when you have enough power. So, we are looking for options to ensure that the state generates its power and shares it with its communities.”

He further added, “We want them to do the plant here and test run it so we can know what they are capable of before we engage them. Gone are the days that people tell stories; we want to see them before we can recommend them to the governor.”

This initiative aligns with the state government’s efforts to provide sustainable power solutions, echoing similar moves by other states like Abia, where Governor Alex Otti’s administration recently launched the Geometric Power Plant project to ensure round-the-clock electricity supply for residents.
