In a statement jointly signed by Kwaghfan Tarnongo and Terrumun Gajir, the Chairman and Secretary of the ASUU chapter respectively, the union announced the suspension of the strike. They highlighted that Governor Alia personally intervened and assured them that their demands would be addressed promptly once the strike was suspended.

The strike was initially triggered by various grievances, including the non-implementation of promotions, payment of earned academic allowances (EAA), and annual step increment. These issues had led to a deadlock between the university management and the academic staff.

However, following Governor Alia’s intervention and his promise to address the union’s demands, ASUU members resolved to suspend the strike. The governor’s personal appeal and commitment to resolving the grievances played a crucial role in reaching this decision.

During a congress meeting, ASUU officials briefed members on the governor’s intervention and the assurance given regarding the resolution of their concerns. Consequently, the union mandated its representatives to engage in a tripartite agreement with the state government and the university management.
