BREAKING: 26 Rivers Assembly Lawmakers Commence Sitting, Consider Fubara’s Impeachment Notice
On Wednesday, the 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly aligned with former Governor Nyesom Wike commenced their session in Port Harcourt, the state capital. Led by Martin Amaewhule, the lawmakers convened at the House of Assembly Complex.
The sole agenda for this session is the consideration of the withdrawal of the impeachment notice against the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The state, known for its oil wealth, has been entangled in a crisis stemming from the ongoing rift between Wike and his predecessor, Fubara.
To address the escalating tensions, President Bola Tinubu facilitated a meeting with the conflicting parties, in consultation with former governor Dr. Peter Odili, resulting in a truce brokered at the Aso Villa in Abuja.

The dispute led to a division among lawmakers in the House, with 27 defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Notable developments included parallel legislative sessions, an impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and multiple resignations of pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.
Despite earlier interventions by the President and elder statesmen in October, the crisis persisted, eventually reaching a point of heightened conflict.
Following Monday’s meeting, the conflicting parties reached an agreement to promptly withdraw all legal actions initiated in the courts by Fubara and his team.
The agreement, signed by Fubara, Wike, Amaewhule, and other stakeholders involved in the crisis, has been officially documented and made available to Channels Television. National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu also appended his signature to the document.
The protracted feud had witnessed parallel legislative sessions, an impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a series of resignations by pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.
Despite earlier interventions by the President and senior statesmen in October, the crisis escalated into a full-blown confrontation.
