BREAKING: Attack On Sylvester Madu Leaves 5 Dead (HOW IT HAPPENED)

A shooting incident occurred just before midnight on Saturday at a bar in the restive English-speaking region of North Cameroon, resulting in at least five fatalities and several injuries, according to local and security sources on Sunday.

The target of the attack, which took place in Bamenda, the chief town of the region, was Nigerian actor Sylvester Madu, who is in Cameroon to film a movie.

“Madu was having a drink with other crew members when they (gunmen) arrived and attempted to kidnap him. Security forces were alerted and there was shootout that resulted in the deaths,” a security source in the region told Xinhua.

The government has attributed the killings to separatist fighters who are known to frequently operate in the town. Several individuals injured in the attack were promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Since 2017, Cameroon’s English-speaking Northwest and Southwest regions have been grappling with a separatist insurgency. The separatists seek to establish an independent nation in these regions.
