Former Chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reform Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina, collapsed on Tuesday and is currently receiving medical attention in a private hospital in Abuja.

According to his media assistant, Emmanuel Ekwe, the incident occurred as Maina attempted to access his office. Ekwe explained that complications from an untreated knee injury caused Maina to lose his balance and fall, striking his head on a staircase.

“Dr. Abdulrasheed Maina slumped on the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026, while trying to enter his office premises. The fall was caused by complications from an untreated knee injury, resulting in a head impact,” Ekwe said. “Medical personnel on site administered first aid and promptly transported him to a private hospital in Abuja for urgent care.”

Doctors are closely monitoring Maina’s condition, and his family has appealed for privacy and public understanding. According to the statement, a preliminary medical assessment indicated that an air ambulance may be considered if his condition does not stabilise.

“Dr. Maina remains under intensive observation. The family and medical team continue to monitor his progress and request prayers, respect, and privacy during this critical period. Further updates will be provided as developments occur,” the statement added.

Maina is widely recognized for his controversial tenure as head of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms and the subsequent high-profile corruption case.
