Confirming the incident on Friday, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, said the agency received the emergency call at 11:02 p.m. and immediately dispatched a team to the scene.

“Our control room was alerted via a call from one Mr. Young, reporting a fire outbreak at the market,” Akinyinka said. “Our firefighters, led by CFS Jimoh, responded swiftly and upon arrival found several lock-up shops engulfed in flames.”

He stated that the team successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading further.

“In total, 12 shops were affected, but our prompt response helped safeguard property valued in the billions. The fire truck returned to the station at 3:18 a.m. and is now back on standby,” he added.
