Breaking: Lagos House Of Assembly Speaker Meranda Ready To Resign Amid Growing Crisis

The crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly is escalating, with Speaker Mojisola Meranda reportedly set to resign following mediation efforts led by senior party figures under the instruction of President Bola Tinubu. According to Naija News, the turmoil, which began on January 13, 2025, was sparked by the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.……..READ MORE

After a series of high-level discussions, party leaders have seemingly reached an agreement on Meranda’s resignation.

A senior APC leader told Daily Trust, “It’s just a matter of time. Reports suggest her resignation letter is ready. We’re not sure if she will submit it on the floor of the House, as lawmakers are on indefinite recess.”

Key figures involved in the negotiations included former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, ex-Osun State Governor Chief Segun Osoba, and former Lagos Commissioner for Justice Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN). The decision was finalized in a meeting, where President Tinubu’s disapproval of Obasa’s impeachment was reinforced.

A source confirmed, “As of today (Tuesday), discussions are ongoing, but I can confirm the Speaker will resign shortly.”

However, the Progressives Alliance, a faction within the APC, has rejected claims that party leaders supported Obasa’s impeachment. The group emphasized that Obasa was absent from the meeting, and Meranda had already submitted her resignation letter to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The group also highlighted a ruling by the National Industrial Court reinstating sacked Clerk Olalekan Onafeko, further questioning the legality of Obasa’s impeachment.
