A devastating gas tanker explosion rocked Sabon Wuse in Tafa Local Government Area, Niger State, late Saturday night, causing extensive damage to vehicles, shops, and food supplies, leaving business owners counting their losses.

The Director General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba-Arah, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, noting that while no lives were lost, the property damage was substantial.

According to Ireporteronline reports, eyewitnesses described the explosion as powerful enough to send shockwaves through the community, sparking widespread panic among residents.

The fire quickly spread, engulfing a nearby petrol station, several shops, and parked vehicles.

A local resident, Musa Aliyu, described the scene as terrifying.
“The flames were so intense they could be seen from various parts of town. People fled their homes in fear. We thank Allah no one was hurt, but the destruction is enormous,” he said.

Firefighters arrived hours later but were unable to prevent the blaze from destroying considerable property.

In the aftermath, residents are urging authorities to tighten safety regulations for gas and petrol stations to prevent future disasters. This incident underscores the ongoing risks associated with handling flammable materials.
