Breaking: Newly Wedded NDLEA Officer Set Ablaze By Angry Crowd
Tragedy struck in Kaduna State as a newly married officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Aliyu Imran, was lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob in the Igabi Local Government Area……..READ MORE
Imran, who served as an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotic 1, was reportedly part of an operation in the Gadan-Gayan area when the incident occurred.
According to reports, Imran and his team were in pursuit of a suspected drug dealer when the suspect’s vehicle crashed, resulting in the death of at least three people. Attempting to calm the rising tension, Imran stepped forward, only to be attacked by the enraged crowd.
Witnesses say he was stabbed multiple times as the Officer-in-Charge (OC) called for backup. A courageous police officer managed to transport him to a nearby hospital for medical attention. However, the violent mob stormed the hospital, dragged Imran out, and set him ablaze while he was still alive.
Imran’s grieving family has accused the NDLEA of failing to acknowledge his death or offer compensation. A source within the agency claimed that NDLEA has a history of covering up such incidents to avoid compensating victims’ families.
“He just got married last December. His wife fainted at his burial. This is not the first time an NDLEA officer has lost his life in duty, and nothing is done for the family,” the source lamented.
However, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi dismissed claims of neglect, stating that the agency’s chairman is in direct contact with the deceased’s family.
“A delegation led by the agency’s director of operations is already in Kaduna to meet with the family. The commander involved in the operation has also been suspended while investigations continue,” Babafemi said.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns over the rising cases of mob justice and the safety of law enforcement officers on duty.
