Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have officially withdrawn the impeachment notice previously issued to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The lawmakers convened for their session in Port Harcourt, focusing solely on the withdrawal of the impeachment notice during their deliberations.

This development follows a truce mediated during a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and the conflicting parties at the Aso Villa in Abuja on Monday.

The lawmakers cited respect for the President as the reason behind their decision to withdraw the impeachment notice.

The conflict between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, led to a split among lawmakers in the House. Twenty-seven of them defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Throughout the feud, various events unfolded, including parallel sittings, the discovery of an impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a wave of resignations among pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.
