BREAKING: Sanusi Gets Fresh Appointment (DETAILS)
Amnesty International has appointed Isa Sanusi, a former journalist and human rights defender, as its new Country Director for Nigeria. In this role, Sanusi will lead the organization’s efforts to expand research, campaigning, and advocacy work in Nigeria, with a specific focus on conflicts, human rights education, gender, climate change, and engaging youth in promoting and protecting human rights.
Prior to his appointment, Sanusi served as the media and communications manager for Amnesty International Nigeria since 2016. He brings a wealth of experience, having worked as a broadcast journalist for the BBC World Service for 10 years and as an Assistant Editor at the Daily Trust newspaper. Throughout his career, Sanusi has led various human rights projects and conducted training for human rights defenders across Nigeria.
Sanusi holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Bayero University Kano and a Master’s in Journalism from the University of London’s Birkbeck College. His extensive background and expertise in the field make him well-suited to drive Amnesty International Nigeria’s mission of promoting and protecting human rights in the country.
According to Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Amnesty International Nigeria, Sanusi’s appointment comes as the organization enters a new phase of growth. This growth will involve supporting and collaborating with civil society organizations, human rights defenders, and activists to advance human rights, hold perpetrators of rights violations accountable, and ensure that victims have access to justice and effective remedies. Sanusi’s experience and leadership will be crucial in driving these initiatives forward.
