BREAKING: Simon Ekpa Has Done It Again (DETAILS)
Simon Ekpa, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), based in Finland, has written to the European Union (EU) and the United States (US) to request the imposition of a visa ban on Enugu State governor Peter Mbah.
This request comes in response to an alleged incident of human rights abuse carried out by the governor in Enugu State. According to Ekpa, three people lost their lives when traders protested the sealing of their shops by the state government. The shops were closed due to a sit-at-home order from IPOB.
In the letter to the EU and US, Ekpa accused Governor Peter Mbah of violating the fundamental human rights of the citizens of Enugu State.
He claimed that the governor confiscated and locked up people’s businesses without regard for the Nigerian constitution or any international conventions, thereby denying the people their right to personal property and free enterprise.
Ekpa asked that the EU and US add Governor Peter Mbah to the list of individuals considered terrorists and enemies of freedom and democracy in Nigeria, and impose a visa ban on him.
Enugu residents took to the streets to express their support for Governor Mbah and to protest against the continued sit-at-home order on Tuesdays. The governor had banned the observance of the sit-at-home in the state and increased security measures. He also threatened to sanction businesses and institutions that refused to open on Tuesdays.
In response to the situation, the Senate called on the Federal Government to extradite Simon Ekpa from Finland. The Senate also condemned the sit-at-home order being observed in the South-Eastern states of Nigeria. They resolved to invite the Minister of Foreign Affairs and other stakeholders to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the sponsors of the sit-at-home order to justice.
