[BREAKING] Subsidy Removal: Govt Approves Increment In Workers’ Salary (SEE AMOUNT ADDED)
The Executive Council of Ebonyi State Government has given its approval for a salary increase of N10,000 for workers as a means of mitigating the impact of the removal of petroleum subsidy.
This decision was announced by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Engr Jude Okpor, during a press briefing following the State Executive Council Meeting, chaired by Governor Francis Nwifuru in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
According to Mr. Okpor, the Governor approved the addition of N10,000 to the salary of every worker in the state in order to alleviate the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy.
Furthermore, Governor Nwifuru tasked the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Grace Umezuruike, with conducting a financial assessment of the state university (EBSU) to determine the allocation of funds and consider an increase in financial support for the institution.

In addition to the salary increase, the Council also authorized the recruitment of 1,454 individuals into the state civil service to fill vacancies that have accumulated over the years. This decision aims to address the staffing needs of various government departments and agencies.
The Council’s discussions also encompassed the ongoing crises in certain parts of the state. To address these issues, a committee was established with the purpose of finding resolutions.
The committee is specifically tasked with addressing the Ezza Effium and Effium crisis in Ohaukwu local government area, the Isinkwo/Abaomege crisis in Onicha local government area, and the Amana/Ikwo crisis in Ezza South and Ikwo Local Government Area, as well as other areas within the state that are experiencing turmoil.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized the importance of selecting committee members who possess unwavering character and proven integrity to ensure effective and fair resolution of the crises.
