BREAKING: Tinubu Gives PDP Chairman Appointment, Gunmen Kill PDP Chairman
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of Ambassador Desmond Akawor, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, as a Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement on Thursday, announced this appointment, emphasizing that it is contingent upon the Senate’s confirmation.
The decision to appoint Akawor as the RMAFC Federal Commissioner representing Rivers State followed the untimely passing of the former commissioner, Hon. Asondu Wenah Temple, earlier this month.
The president has charged the newly appointed Federal Commissioner to utilize his extensive experience across various levels of government to spearhead comprehensive reforms. These reforms aim to ensure the utmost efficiency and productive utilization of allocations to all three tiers of government in Nigeria.
“Ambassador Akawor is a decorated public servant who has served the nation as Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea; Minister of State of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority; CEO, Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, and Executive Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (Engineering & Technical Services),” the statement read.
Chiedoziem Anyanwu, the ward chairperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, has been fatally shot by unidentified gunmen.
Mr. Anyanwu held the position of PDP chairperson for Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze Ward in Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred on Thursday when gunmen on a motorcycle visited his residence. Upon their arrival, they specifically sought to meet with the deceased. Upon identifying him, the assailants shot Mr. Anyanwu, ensuring his demise before swiftly fleeing the scene, as reported by Punch newspaper.
“He was shot dead in his wife’s presence by gunmen who requested to see him,” an unnamed source was quoted as saying.
“The development has brought an uneasy calm to the fold of the PDP in the state. The slain party chairman was vibrant. Nobody knew why he was killed,” the source added.
Lancelot Obiaku, the Director General of the PDP’s New Media in the state, has verified the tragic incident, as reported by the paper. Mr. Obiaku has strongly advocated for the apprehension and legal prosecution of the perpetrators.
In response to inquiries, the spokesperson for the police in Imo state, Henry Okoye, stated that he has not received a briefing on the incident.
