The Adamawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the Action Alliance (AA) challenging the declaration of Ahmadu Fintiri as the winner of the April 16 governorship election.

The petitioner officially withdrew the petition during a pre-hearing sitting in Yola, resulting in the dismissal of the case.

Three petitions were filed against the declaration of Fintiri, including those from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidate, Dr. Umar Ardo, as well as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Aishatu Binani Dahiru.

The case of the Action Alliance was dismissed after they filed a notice of withdrawal. The People’s Democratic Party and its candidate, Fintiri, also filed a motion asking the tribunal to dismiss the case brought by the APC and its candidate, Binani.

In the SDP’s case, the attorney failed to produce witnesses, and the hearing has been adjourned to July 21, 2023.

Governor Fintiri was declared the winner of the governorship election on April 18 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The supplementary election took place on April 16, following the declaration of the initial election as inconclusive.

However, during the collation of the supplementary election, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner prematurely declared Binani the winner, which was later deemed invalid by INEC.

Recently, INEC filed charges against the Adamawa REC, Hudu Yunusa Ari, for usurping the power of the Returning Officer. The charges were filed at the High Court in Yola.
