Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) participated in a solidarity march on Friday in support of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who has recently been embroiled in political turmoil.

The march included students, youths, civil society organizations, labor unions, and members of the Hausa community in the state.

The gathering took place in front of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital, just days after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the political crisis affecting the oil-rich state.

Rivers State has been at the center of a power struggle between the former governor, Nyseom Wike, and Fubara.

The strained relationship between Wike and Fubara led to a split among lawmakers in the House, with 27 of them defecting from the PDP to the ruling APC.

This rift escalated to the point where the governor faced an impeachment notice, the Assembly complex was demolished, and pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet resigned in large numbers.

However, a resolution appears to have been reached following a meeting between Tunubu and the conflicting parties on Monday.
