Campaign Clashes: APC Urges Authorities To Arrest Edo Council Chairman And DGThe All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign ahead of the September 21 governorship election reportedly turned violent in Ososo and Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. Alleged thugs, disguised as masquerades, attempted to disrupt the rally in Ososo, while a youth leader in Ward 1, Igarra, was accused of trying to disrupt the event there, leading to injuries.

The APC, in response on Saturday, called for the arrest of the council chairman, Tajudeen Alade, and Deputy Governor Marvellous Omobayo, accusing them of failing to prevent the violence.

However, Alade dismissed these claims as completely false.

In a statement, Comrade Orobosa Omo-Ojo, Director of Publicity for the APC Edo Governorship Campaign Council, described the attacks as part of the PDP’s efforts to obstruct APC’s campaign, which aims to bring their “rescue message” to the people.

Despite knowing of the threats, Omo-Ojo said they continued their rally undeterred, allowing Senator Monday Okpebholo’s “#TakeBackEdoState” message to reach the people.

According to the statement, the rally was peaceful until thugs disguised as masquerades disrupted the crowd with whips. Despite this, key speakers, including APC candidate Senator Okpebholo, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Niger Delta Minister Engineer Abubakar Momoh, and others, delivered their speeches successfully.

The statement also accused the council chairman of being angered by APC’s growing support in Akoko-Edo, leading him to disrupt another rally in Igarra. Despite attempts by a motorcycle rider wearing a PDP cap to cause chaos, the rally concluded positively, with no further incidents.

“In response to these unprovoked attacks, we will have no choice but to protect our party’s impending victory if the Police and State Security Service (DSS) fail to arrest Tajudeen Bright Alade and Omobayo Godwins for inciting these attacks on our party in Ososo and Igarra.”

Alade Dismisses Claims as Baseless
Reacting to the allegations, Alade explained that the incident stemmed from a masquerade brought by the APC to the rally, who had asked a party leader for money. When the leader refused, security personnel intervened, pushing the masquerade away, which caused his followers to react.

“As the council chairman, I had mobilized the police to provide security during the rally, and I was engaged in official duties that day. How can they accuse me or the deputy governor of inciting violence?” Alade questioned.

He added, “I learned that during the altercation, an APC member, a motorcycle rider named Elaro David, sustained a gunshot wound. I even visited him and provided financial assistance for his medical treatment.

“It’s laughable for them to accuse me of such actions. Do they know the number of security personnel—armed police, soldiers, and DSS agents—who accompany them during their campaigns? How could thugs, as they claim, overpower such heavily armed security forces? Their claims are completely false.
