Chairman of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo, has appealed to elders to stop inflicting injuries on children in the name of discipline. According to Okeowo, children should be celebrated every day, and selecting a specific day like May 27th serves as a reminder for elders to be lenient, generous, compassionate, and corrective with love and care towards all children, not just their own.
“Choosing a specific day like May 27th is a wake-up call for elders to be lenient, generous, compassionate, correct in love, and be caring towards children, not only theirs but every child that comes in contact with them,” Okeowo emphasized.
He urged parents to have a manageable number of children, lead by example, and create quality time for their children.
Remi Abiola Williams, the Education Secretary for Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local Education District, commended Okeowo for creating a conducive atmosphere where children could relax, socialize with peers from other schools, and enjoy the festivities.
Council Manager Azeez Abiodun informed the children that under Okeowo’s leadership, the council has set up a school rehabilitation committee. The committee has already submitted its reports, and schools in Ifelodun are expected to witness significant transformations, including the construction of new classrooms where necessary.
