CHIEF KENNESTER OTEGHEKPEN: A JOLLY GOOD FELLOW INDEED
It is not easy to describe a man of many excellent parts. Many contending attributes are all at once conjured, that it becomes difficult to narrow down. On the other hand, attempting to deploy all that appear for consideration could lead to writing a book instead of a simple tribute. Such is the story of Chief Kennester Oteghekpen, the Nobabor of Benin Kingdom, whom we have the honour and privilege to celebrate.
Nevertheless, as we join him in celebration of his four score and one year existence on earth, our appreciation of this high chief of the royal court of the Oba of Benin cannot but begin with his nobility, which is not just a result of his place in the society, but in his natural disposition and carriage. Chief Oteghekpen is unquestionably a representation of all that is noble – in thoughts, in action, and in the management of relationships.
Chief, as he is rightly and fondly called by family and friends, is a forthright, sympathetic, empathetic and kind man. These noble attributes which he has been endowed with from his youthful years has impacted positively on those who fate has made to cross his path. Indeed he has proven to be a model and a mentor of sublime influence. In spite of this noble status, Chief Kennester Oteghekpen is a very humble man. This divine and sterling attribute enables him to relate easily with all, irrespective of class and age and stands him out amongst his peers. As the light attracts all kinds of insects, so is Chief to all manner of men.
Today, we celebrate Chief Kennester Oteghekpen for all the positive things he represents and particularly, for his impactful friendship we consider a privilege to share. He is a true and faithful friend as well as a dependable ally who would stay by your side through turbulent times. Also, when you seek a friendly face to join in savouring the feeling of fulfilment he avails you the warmth of his presence. In spite of his friendliness, Chief is not given to sycophancy and eye service. He is a man of truth; a man who tells it the way it is. He always seeks to make things resolved in the right and best ways.
Chief is an extremely intelligent and sagacious man. The evidence of this could be found in the well articulated writings that he publishes in the social media. Whether as social commentaries, memoirs, good will messages or tributes, he is always a delight to read. His arguments are usually faultless. These pieces reveal the profoundness of his thoughts and a brilliance borne of nature and excellent cultivation.
For a man his age, Chief Kennester Oteghekpen’s ability to vividly recollect the events of the past and to articulate propositions for the present and future is simply amazing. His versatility and vitality remarkably makes him a man of all seasons.
We also celebrate Chief today for his accomplishments in life. His achievements in the fields of sports and education will be kept for recitation on another occasion. But it suffices to say that he has come, seen and conquered. We testify to it that in the midst of the high and low moments that attend to every human being, God has in His infinite grace been a blessing to Chief. He has blessed him with long life, good health, a wonderful family and a heart of eternal cheer.
According to the book of proverbs (Proverbs 9:11), “For by me the days shall be multiplied, and the years of your life shall be increased”.
Therefore, as Chief Kennester Oteghekpen continues his eventful march towards his centenary anniversary in good health and prosperity, we enjoin all and sundry to join in saluting this quintessential JOLLY GOOD FELLOW, with 81 happy cheers!
Finally, we pray that God will continue to bless and keep you, give you longer life, good health and grant all your heart desires in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
