Court Issues ‘Fresh’ Decree On Yahaya Bello’s Criminal Case

In a recent ruling, Justice Emeka Nwite reiterated the court’s previous order from April 17, directing security agencies to apprehend and present Bello before the court to address the 19-count charge pending against him.
The court condemned Bello’s alleged efforts to contest its jurisdiction through legal representatives while evading authorities, describing it as a blatant disregard for the court’s authority. Justice Nwite emphasized that Bello’s refusal to obey the court’s order and make himself available for trial constituted contempt of court.
Highlighting the importance of upholding court orders, Justice Nwite stressed that Bello’s actions were aimed at obstructing the trial and preventing the court from assuming jurisdiction in the case. The judge criticized Bello for attempting to undermine the judicial process and indicated that no application could be heard until Bello appeared in court to enter his plea.
It is noteworthy that Bello is facing charges related to money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of public funds amounting to approximately N80.2 billion during his tenure as Governor of Kogi State.
