Court Rescinds Order Sending IGP To 3 Month Imprisonment : Contempt
The Federal High Court in Abuja has reversed its order sentencing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba to three months in prison for contempt of court.
Justice Bolaji Olajuwon negated her November 29 ruling, telling the court there is evidence of the IGP complying with its directive to reinstate the unlawfully retired police officer, Patrick Okoli.

She held that the IGP’s appeal to the court to vacate its earlier order is worthy of sympathetic consideration, as the IGP had given assurances to reinstate Okoli.
Okoli served as a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) in the Bauchi State Command.
He was forced to retire in 1992 by the then Police Council, now the Police Service Commission, under Decree 17 of 1984.
Okoli appealed his expulsion from the NPF and had the Police Council’s decision overturned.
Alkali Baba was sentenced to three months in prison for failing to obey an October 21, 2011 court order to reinstate CSP Okoli, who was retired unlawfully from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).
