PUNCH Online notes that Governor Seyi Makinde reinaugurated the Oyo State Seed Coordinating Committee on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

This information was shared by Olasunkanmi Olaleye, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, through a statement distributed by Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, at a meeting in Ibadan, the state capital, with significant stakeholders.

Olaleye stated that quality seeds are essential for agricultural productivity and the success of farmers. He also highlighted that neglecting the issue of poor-quality seeds could hinder efforts to make agriculture a viable income source.

“The State Seed Coordinating Committee, along with other agricultural stakeholders, held their inaugural meeting to explore strategies for identifying and introducing improved seed varieties to farmers, enhancing agricultural productivity,” he explained.

“There is an immediate need for each committee member to execute their duties effectively, as this will reshape the seed sector’s future, boost productivity, and ultimately ensure food security.”
