During a strategic engagement session focused on the distribution of seized grains stored at Customs facilities nationwide, the Comptroller General of the Service, Bashir Adeniyi Adewale, emphasized the directive from President Bola Tinubu to clamp down on excessive hoarding and illegal exportation of grains.

Adewale reiterated the commitment of the Customs to eliminate any factors hindering economic growth and development while preventing hunger and starvation among Nigerians.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, he emphasized the enforcement of existing laws prohibiting the exportation of essential food items such as beans, cassava, rice, and sorghum. The Customs remains vigilant to prevent the excessive exportation of food items, ensuring food security for citizens.

Adewale disclosed that over 120 trucks loaded with essential food items have been seized nationwide, forming part of the food distribution efforts across the country.

Furthermore, the Customs is facilitating measures to enable farmers to directly harvest and market their grains, bypassing intermediaries, to enhance accessibility and affordability of food commodities.

To achieve its objectives, the Customs is collaborating closely with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to enforce regulations effectively and mitigate the challenges of food insecurity across the nation.
