Data Compliance Alert: NDPC Mandates Registration For Controllers, Processors

In a bid to uphold data privacy and security standards, the NDPC has directed businesses, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and other organizations engaged in the collection and processing of personal data to register as either Data Controllers or Data Processors.
Entities involved in handling personal data, including but not limited to students’ records, client information, patient details, and customer data, are urged to adhere to the registration mandate, whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
The registration process is facilitated through the official NDPC Registration Portal accessible at www.service.ndpc.gov.ng. Commencing on January 30th, 2024, and concluding on June 30th, 2024, the registration period serves as a window for compliance. Entities failing to register within this timeframe risk facing penalties as stipulated by law.
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, processing personal data without proper registration is deemed illegal. Non-compliance with registration requirements constitutes an offense punishable by law, underscoring the significance of adherence to regulatory directives.
