Delta Government Issues Stern warning To LPG retailers In Warri

Representing the Commissioner of Oil and Gas, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, Permanent Secretary Mr. Frank Omoko delivered the warning during a meeting with the operators in Warri. As part of the sensitization effort, a training program was organized for the operators under the theme “Safety: Hallmark of LPG Retailing in Delta State.”

Addressing the audience at the Government House Annex in Edjeba, Warri, Omoko emphasized that the ministry’s monitoring team would take action against those found violating the directive. The operators were also provided with safety guidelines, including avoiding cylinder-to-cylinder refills, ensuring proper ventilation in and around LPG facilities, refraining from phone calls near LPG facilities, and installing fire extinguishers in retail shops and homes.

Omoko underscored the importance of the warning in preventing gas explosions in the state, noting that past sensitization efforts had contributed to a reduction in fire incidents at LPG retail outlets. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Deltans under the MORE agenda, aimed at fostering a conducive environment for oil and gas businesses.

Managing Director of Ewosky Consult, Mr. Ewoma Eberebor, pledged to collaborate with the state government to establish Micro Distributing Centers (MDCs) to expand their business operations, thereby reducing the number of LPG outlets in residential areas. Eberebor highlighted the importance of combating the use of dirty fuel for cooking, which contributes to health hazards and fatalities among women in the state.

Mrs. Awotula Patricia, speaking on behalf of the operators, assured compliance with the regulations and expressed readiness to partner with the government in establishing MDCs to streamline LPG distribution. Other operators present at the event commended the state government for the initiative and acknowledged the valuable insights gained from the training program.
