To date, one commissioner and one special adviser have tendered their resignations, citing their aspirations for the polls. However, an alternative perspective suggests their resignations were prompted by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s directive.

Allegedly, the governor instructed commissioners and political officeholders with personal interests to resign from their positions. Among those notable resignations is Joan Onyemaechi, the Technical Education Commissioner, who stepped down due to her brother’s candidacy for the chairmanship of Aniocha South LGA. However, Onyemaechi faced controversy, with the Nsukwa clan accusing her of favoring her family members in political appointments.

Jaro Egbo, the special adviser on transport and coordinator of palliatives from Ughelli North LGA, is another individual who resigned. It is claimed that his resignation was at the specific urging of the governor to contest the local elections to counter the influence of Senator Ovie Omo Agege, the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 election.

Vincent Oyibode, the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, was also rumored to have resigned. However, Oyibode denied these reports, stating that he was unaware of any directive from the governor instructing commissioners to resign in relation to the council elections when contacted.
