The tragic incident occurred on March 14, where military personnel on a peacekeeping mission were brutally murdered in Ukuama community in Delta State.
In a statement issued by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, it was disclosed that the video is proving to be instrumental in the ongoing investigation aimed at uncovering the perpetrators of the massacre.
Buba revealed that various clearance operations, including cordon and search activities, were conducted to recover the weapons of the deceased soldiers. These operations were carried out in communities such as Akugbene, Ukuama, Okoloba, Amusamo, Akwagbe, Arhavwarien, Pirigbene, and Igbomatoro, all situated in Delta State.
During these operations, the decomposing remains of some of the slain soldiers were discovered. Despite these efforts, the manhunt for the culprits continues, with no significant arrests made thus far.
The existence of a viral video featuring an individual admitting to the killings has provided a crucial lead in the investigation. This video is aiding authorities in narrowing down their search to persons of interest and their associates.
In light of this development, the state government and the host communities of the suspects are urged to cooperate with the investigation efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
The Defence Headquarters emphasized that there will be no sanctuary for those responsible for such reprehensible acts against the nation. They called upon members of the affected communities and the state government to fulfill their duty by assisting in flushing out the perpetrators.
