According to sources at Bureau De Change (BDC), as of Saturday, 10th February 2024, the Lagos Parallel Market (Black Market) witnessed players buying a dollar for N1480 and selling at N1490. These numbers reflect the ongoing fluctuations in the foreign exchange market, shaping the financial decisions of individuals and businesses alike.

While the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) maintains its stance against recognizing the parallel market, directing forex seekers to approach authorized banks, the reality on the ground showcases a different narrative. The disparity between official CBN rates and black market rates underscores the challenges faced by many in accessing foreign currency through traditional channels.

In the midst of these economic shifts, another report emerges, shedding light on Nigeria’s food production outlook. A forecast, released by Fairtrade and the Organisation for Technology Advancement of Cold Chain in West Africa (OTACCWA), projects a staggering 48 percent increase in food production between 2021 and 2024. This surge is anticipated to translate into a remarkable €62.6 billion rise in food production, signifying a significant milestone for the nation’s agricultural sector.

With Nigeria’s food output witnessing a notable uptick of 39.6 percent from 2016 to 2020, the forecast paints a promising picture of growth and resilience in the face of economic challenges. As investments in food and packaging technology continue to pour in, Nigeria’s position as a key player in Africa’s economic landscape remains steadfast.

As the nation charts its course towards prosperity, attention to both forex fluctuations and agricultural growth will undoubtedly shape its trajectory in the years to come.
