Earthquake Alert! Scientist Says Nigeria Not Safe—Unveils Disaster Control Tech

A climate and geoscience expert has raised alarm over the looming threat of earthquakes in Nigeria, warning that the country is not immune to seismic activity and urging immediate preparedness. According to iReporter Online, the warning came from Dr. Anietie Ikott, a Uyo-based scientist and Chief Executive of Anirich Nigeria Limited, during a weekend media briefing in Akwa Ibom State.

Ikott challenged the longstanding belief that Nigeria is shielded from earthquakes due to its location outside of the global seismic belt. He cited recent tremors recorded in Abuja and parts of the South-West as clear indicators that the country could experience a major seismic event at any time.

“Nigeria will soon experience a devastating earthquake,” he stated. “We are not immune. It can strike anywhere, anytime—and any affected region may never fully recover.”

Referencing broader patterns of climate change-induced disasters across the nation, Ikott pointed to increasing incidences of violent windstorms, excessive rainfall, and widespread flooding—phenomena he described as precursors to more catastrophic events. He recalled recent climate disasters in Niger and Borno states that caused massive infrastructural damage and loss of life, saying these are no longer isolated events.

According to iReporter Online, Ikott further asserted that environmental catastrophes like earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, and even excessive ice storms could be mitigated through emerging innovations in weather control technologies. He claimed to have developed a proprietary system capable of managing extreme weather conditions and preventing future natural disasters.

While details of the proposed technology were not disclosed, Ikott called for proactive measures from authorities and scientific institutions to consider early interventions, warning that any complacency could have irreversible consequences.

“This is not just a forecast; it’s a warning backed by observable evidence,” he emphasized.
