During the proceedings, Shaibu or his legal representatives failed to appear to defend the allegations against him. Despite being given multiple opportunities to do so, Shaibu did not show up to open his defense, leading to the closure of the case.

The Edo State House of Assembly, acting as the petitioner, presented its case on Wednesday and closed it, allowing Shaibu the chance to defend himself. However, his counsel, Oladoyin Awoyale, withdrew from the proceedings after the panel rejected his request to suspend the hearing pending the outcome of a suit filed in Abuja challenging Shaibu’s impeachment.

Subsequently, the Assembly’s Deputy Clerk, Joe Ohiafi, presented the case against Shaibu, alleging that he breached the Oath of Secrecy by disclosing state government secrets in court documents filed in Abuja.

At the latest sitting on Friday, the assembly was represented by its Legal Officer, N.U. Ibrahim, along with two others.
