Edo Commissioner Gets Punished For Publicly Disrespecting Monarch

The Palace spokesman, Osumah Obaze, issued a statement in Benin City, accusing Oduwa-Malaka of misconduct and disrespect towards the king. The incident occurred when she allegedly requested the monarch to meet her in her car upon arriving at the palace on April 12, 2024.

In response to this behavior, the Onotare ordered the immediate revocation of her title as a deterrent to others intending to disrespect the throne. Additionally, Oduwa-Malaka has been banned from the palace with immediate effect.

The statement cited multiple offenses, including openly insulting the Onotare and failing to pay obeisance during the Ivbamen festival on April 13, 2024. Moreover, Oduwa-Malaka allegedly boasted about removing the traditional ruler from office.

Furthermore, the honorary chieftaincy title, Ozemevboya of Ozalla Kingdom, conferred on George Ohioma, was also revoked for allegedly insulting and physically assaulting the Onotare of Ozalla and the Secretary to the Onotare.

Consequently, both Oduwa-Malaka and George Ohioma have been banned from the palace, with the honorary title now reserved exclusively for freeborn members of Ozalla Kingdom.

The decision serves as a stern warning against disrespecting traditional institutions and undermining the authority of the monarch.
