The incident occurred around 7 pm on Friday, shortly after the expiration of the party’s State Working Committee, less than three days prior.

Aziegbemi was allegedly kidnapped at the entrance of his residence along Country Home Hotel Road, Benin City, after a meeting with Governor Godwin Obaseki.

According to sources, as Aziegbemi’s driver attempted to enter the compound, the abductors intercepted the vehicle, seized Aziegbemi, and left the driver unharmed.

It was revealed that the PDP chairman’s meeting with the governor was to discuss plans for establishing a caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs pending the election of a new executive.

Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate for the forthcoming governorship election, was also scheduled to attend the meeting but was unable to due to prior engagements in Uromi.

A party chieftain, speaking anonymously, emphasized the importance of maintaining party unity ahead of the upcoming election and highlighted the challenges of conducting a fresh PDP State Congress amidst the electoral preparations.

Chidi Nwabuzor, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, has been contacted for further information.
