Edo: Shaibu Has Messed Up His Political Future – Okai
Usman Okai Austin, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party National Youth Frontier, has criticized former Edo State deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, stating that Shaibu has compromised his political future……READ ALSO Declare Yahaya Bello Wanted Now, Okai Urges As EFCC Probes N84bn Fraud Allegations
Okai’s comments come in response to Shaibu’s impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly, indicating a significant setback for the former deputy governor’s political ambitions.
According to Okai, Shaibu’s downfall can be attributed to misguided advice or an overestimation of his political influence. He suggests that Shaibu should have completed his tenure as deputy governor peacefully, without attempting to position himself for succession after Governor Obaseki.
Highlighting the political dynamics in Edo State, Okai underscores the traditional power rotation arrangement among the regions. He asserts that Shaibu’s failure to respect this arrangement, by seeking to extend his influence beyond his region, has led to his downfall.
Okai points out that Shaibu’s aspirations to break from the established power rotation policy have alienated him from both the ruling APC and his own party, leaving his political future uncertain.
He advises Shaibu to pursue legal action to contest his impeachment but warns that his prospects of returning to power, especially as deputy governor, are slim.
In conclusion, Okai asserts that Shaibu’s political career has been severely compromised due to his misguided actions and lack of adherence to established political norms and arrangements in Edo State.
