At the inauguration of the board members representing the 18 local government areas, the board chairman, High Chief Abudu Ugbesia, highlighted the success of countries like China in advancing traditional medicine and expressed confidence that Nigeria, particularly Edo State, could achieve similar progress.

Ugbesia criticized the previous administration for failing to re-establish the board after the tenure of the one set up by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole ended in 2016, and commended Governor Okoebholo for addressing this gap.

He remarked, “Just as our Governor, Senator Monday Okoebholo often says, ‘A New Edo State is Rising,’ I am proud to announce that the Edo State Traditional Medicines Board is also rising alongside it.”

He emphasized the board’s commitment to cleansing the traditional medicine sector in Edo State and urged practitioners to avoid unethical practices, stating that the board has zero tolerance for such behavior.

Ugbesia also expressed his ambition to transform the perception of traditional medicine, stating that if countries like China can elevate their traditional practices, Nigeria has the potential to surpass them. “Edo State will lead the way,” he affirmed.

The newly inaugurated members of the board pledged their support to the chairman and committed to fostering a stronger and more reputable traditional medicine practice in the state.
