Edo State To Commence Enforcement Of New Sanitation Law In January
According to Ireporter Online, the Edo State Government has announced that it will commence enforcement of the newly signed Edo State Sanitation and Pollution Management Law starting January 2, 2026. Governor Monday Okpebholo recently signed the legislation, which aims to ensure a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment across the state.
Speaking over the weekend in Benin City during an interactive session with journalists, Edo Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Nosa Adams, emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing the law rigorously. He called on the media to support advocacy and public enlightenment campaigns to ensure widespread awareness and compliance.
Adams highlighted the urgency of tackling environmental degradation, stressing that unchecked pollution and industrial emissions pose serious risks to both current and future generations. “Industries are springing up and emitting pollutants into the air we breathe. This is not safe. We are determined to create a cleaner, greener, and habitable environment,” he said.
He further noted that environmental preservation is essential for public health and wellbeing, warning that even wealth cannot compensate for living in a degraded environment. Adams stressed the importance of collaboration with media partners to protect the state’s natural resources and ensure sustainable development for generations to come.
