Edo To Become First Fully E-governed State In Nigeria, Sets Deadline
The Edo State Government is confident that it will become the first state in Nigeria to fully transition to a digital mode of administration. Governor Godwin Obaseki made this announcement during the opening of a one-week digital transformation training program for over 3,000 workers.
The training event is taking place at the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy in Benin City. Governor Obaseki, represented by the Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, stated that Edo State is currently the most digitized state in the country.

He emphasized that the government is diligently working towards digitizing and streamlining all government services to ensure transparency and efficiency. The aim is to train 3,000 civil and public servants in computer usage, as it is essential for working with the edogov platform.
Governor Obaseki set a target for Edo State to achieve complete e-governance status by September 1, 2023, surpassing the achievements of any other state in the country. The governor is determined to establish Edo State as the digital hub of Nigeria and is investing significantly in digitalization efforts.
To support this vision, the government is expanding fiber optic cables across the state to enhance internet access and provide opportunities for skill development. The governor recently launched a digital policy to guide the state’s digital technology initiatives and ensure tangible outcomes.
The training program primarily focuses on the directorate level of the government, with the aim of improving computer proficiency among workers and enabling them to effectively utilize the edogov platform. The ultimate goal is to enhance workers’ computer literacy and proficiency, facilitating their efficient use of digital tools in their roles within the state government.
