EFCC Investigates 10 Suspected Oil Thieves In Uyo

The suspects were apprehended aboard the MT Queen Hansal ship, which was found loaded with 100 metric tonnes of petroleum products without the appropriate license.
The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base Ibaka, Akwa Ibom State, apprehended the suspects and seized the petroleum products, subsequently handing them over to the EFCC for further investigation.
Captain Uche Aneke, while handing over the suspects and exhibits to the EFCC, reiterated the Navy’s commitment to combating oil theft in Akwa Ibom State and its environs. He disclosed that the MT Queen Hansal was engaged in suspicious activities near the Exxon Mobil oil field.
Accepting the suspects and the seized products on behalf of the EFCC, Deputy Superintendent Ayuba Zira expressed gratitude to the Navy and assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted. He affirmed the EFCC’s determination to prosecute anyone found culpable. Zira emphasized the collaboration between the EFCC and the Navy in sanitizing the oil industry and waterways.
The EFCC’s investigation aims to uncover the extent of the suspects’ involvement in illegal petroleum product trading and hold them accountable for their actions.
