During a meeting with Kingsley Achiefe, the Managing Director of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Adeleke urged the IBEDC to promptly address the crisis of irregular power supply in the state. He also outlined his agenda for the power sector in Osun State.
Adeleke highlighted the importance of Osun State in the Nigerian power sector, especially with Osogbo hosting the National Transmission Control Centre. He raised concerns about power outages contributing to growing insecurity, exploitation of consumers through transformer procurement, estimated billing, and the outdated metering system.
To address these issues, Adeleke revealed plans to enact the Osun Electricity System Law, which will establish a Power Sector Regulatory Agency. This agency aims to ensure that residents of Osun State receive adequate power supply within the IBEDC franchise areas. Additionally, the government plans to introduce off-grid options and expand alternative energy sources.
In response, the IBEDC Managing Director acknowledged the challenges faced by the company, attributing the epileptic power supply to a drop in power generation. He cited factors such as vandalization of energy installations, energy theft through meter bypassing, and the poor condition of transformers in the state.
Despite these challenges, the IBEDC assured its readiness to collaborate with the Osun State Government to improve service delivery to customers.
The meeting between Governor Adeleke and the IBEDC management underscores the importance of addressing electricity supply issues to foster economic growth and development in Osun State.
